People experiencing deprivation are more likely to suffer complications or die after major surgery, despite receiving similar hospital care to others.
Our research engages with people from poorer communities as well as healthcare professionals to design ways to improve surgical outcomes and reduce inequalities.
“We’ve grown tired of waiting for broader societal change to impact health inequalities. With strong patient and public involvement, our team is developing interventions to improve surgical outcomes for people experiencing deprivation. These will be tested in over 40 NHS hospitals across the UK.”
